In just their fourth year of existence, the Arizona Diamondbacks made history by defeating the three-time defending World Series Champion New York Yankees in a dramatic seven-game Fall Classic. With the horrors of September 11, 2001 still fresh, Major League Baseball and the World Series provided a much needed reprieve for America.

The 2001 World Series pitted the mighty Yankees, winners of 26 World Series Championships, against the upstart Diamondbacks, winners of 2 postseason series. Despite being taken to the brink of elimination after three dramatic games in New York, the Diamondbacks battled back at home and won it all in an incredible ninth inning comeback in Game 7.
